Scholarly Evaluation & Integrity

Reviewer Guidelines & Academic Resources

Peer review is the cornerstone of academic excellence at the International Journal of Geriatric Orthopedics (IJGO). We rely on the clinical insight, methodological rigor, and professional integrity of expert reviewers to safeguard scientific quality and advance evidence-based orthogeriatric medicine.

Peer Review Process

Peer Review Model & Evaluation Criteria

IJGO operates a rigorous Double-Blind Peer Review process in which both the reviewers and the authors remain anonymous throughout evaluation. Reviewers are expected to provide objective, balanced, and constructive assessments within 14 to 21 days of accepting a review invitation.

Criterion 01
Clinical Relevance & Originality

Does the study address a critical gap in geriatric orthopaedic care, fragility fracture management, or mobility rehabilitation? Is the research question original and clinically meaningful?

Criterion 02
Study Design & Methodology

Are the study methodology, sample size calculations, inclusion/exclusion criteria, and control groups methodologically sound and clearly reproducible?

Criterion 03
Ethical Compliance & Vulnerability

Was Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC/IRB) approval obtained? Were informed consent procedures appropriately adapted for cognitively impaired or frail elderly patients?

Criterion 04
Statistical Rigor & Analysis

Are statistical tests appropriate for the study type? Are confidence intervals, p-values, Kaplan-Meier curves, or multivariable adjustments accurately interpreted?

Criterion 05
Constructive Discussion

Does the discussion place findings in context with published global and Indian literature? Are study limitations honestly discussed without overgeneralizing conclusions?

Criterion 06
Clarity, Tone & Organization

Is the manuscript clearly written, well-organized, and compliant with reporting guidelines? Are illustrations, clinical photographs, and tables informative and necessary?

Review Recommendations Framework:

Reviewers submit their evaluations with one of the following recommendations to the Editor-in-Chief:

Decision 01
Accept

Manuscript is ready for publication with no revisions required.

Decision 02
Minor Revision

Requires textual clarifications, reference updates, or minor data reformatting.

Decision 03
Major Revision

Requires additional data, re-analysis, extensive rewriting, or re-review.

Decision 04
Reject

Methodologically flawed, out of journal scope, or lacks sufficient originality.

Ethical Obligations

Conflicts of Interest & Confidentiality

In strict adherence to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines and World Association of Medical Editors (WAME) recommendations, reviewers are bound by mandatory ethical principles:

Absolute Manuscript Confidentiality

Manuscripts received for review are privileged, confidential documents. Reviewers must not share, discuss, copy, or distribute any part of an unpublished submission with colleagues, students, or external parties. Reviewers are strictly prohibited from uploading manuscripts into generative AI systems or third-party cloud tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude, large language models), as doing so violates author copyright, data security, and peer-review confidentiality.

Declaration of Competing Interests:
  • Institutional or Personal Ties: Reviewers must immediately decline an invitation if they share an institution, research group, or personal relationship with any of the authors.
  • Collaborations & Co-authorship: Reviewers must recuse themselves if they have collaborated, co-authored papers, or shared active grants with the authors within the past 3 years.
  • Financial & Commercial Conflicts: Reviewers must disclose any financial associations, consultancies, or patent interests involving medical devices, implants, or drugs discussed in the manuscript.
  • Direct Scientific Competition: Reviewers should decline if reviewing the manuscript places them in direct commercial or scientific conflict with their own ongoing work.
