IJGO is a peer-reviewed journal publishing articles related to care and research in general orthopaedics . It is the official journal of the Geriatric Orthopedic Society of India (GOSI).

Scope of the Journal

The International Journal of Geriatric Orthopedics (IJGO) is a peer-reviewed, multidisciplinary publication dedicated to improving musculoskeletal health and orthopedic care in the elderly. As the global population ages, IJGO provides a vital platform for sharing clinical experience, original research, and innovative approaches that enhance the quality of life for older adults.

Focus Areas

IJGO welcomes high-quality submissions that advance understanding, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of orthopedic conditions in the geriatric population. Key areas of interest include:

  • Fracture management and fragility fractures
  • Osteoporosis and bone metabolism
  • Arthroplasty, revision surgery, and implant-related issues in the elderly
  • Degenerative spinal disorders and geriatric spine surgery
  • Geriatric trauma and perioperative care
  • Rehabilitation, fall prevention, and mobility restoration
  • Orthogeriatric co-management and multidisciplinary care models
  • Innovations in surgical techniques, robotics, and minimally invasive

Submission Formats


The International Journal of Geriatric Orthopedics (IJGO) welcomes original contributions that align with the journal’s scope and objectives. All submissions must be prepared according to the following format and guidelines to ensure a smooth review and publication process.



Types of Manuscripts Accepted


IJGO accepts the following categories of submissions: Original Research Articles – Clinical, experimental, or epidemiological studies with clear methodology and analysis. Review Articles – Comprehensive, critical appraisals of topics relevant to geriatric orthopedics. Case Reports / Case Series – Reports highlighting unique, rare, or instructive clinical cases. Technical Notes / Surgical Innovations – Brief reports on new techniques or modifications of existing procedures. Editorials, Commentaries, and Perspectives – By invitation or special approval. Letters to the Editor – Short discussions or critiques related to previously published content.

Manuscript Submission


  • Manuscripts must be submitted online through the dedicated journal submission system: Scripture (developed by Indian Orthopaedic Research Group).

  • Response time: Decisions are usually issued within 8–10 weeks.

Submission Charges: None.
Peer Review: Double-blind.
Article Processing Charges (APCs): None.

Manuscript Structure


  • Title Page
    • Title of the article (concise and descriptive)
    • Full names of all authors, with institutional affiliations
    • Corresponding author’s name, address, email, and ORCID ID (if available)
    • Word count, number of tables and figures, and source(s) of funding
  • Abstract and Keywords
    • Abstract: Structured (for research papers) — up to 250 words with subheadings: Background, Methods, Results, and Conclusion.
    • Keywords: 3–6 keywords listed below the abstract (preferably MeSH terms).
  • Main Text
    • Introduction – Background and purpose of the study.
    • Materials and Methods – Detailed methodology to allow replication.
    • Results – Clear presentation of findings, supported by tables/figures.
    • Discussion – Interpretation of results, comparison with existing literature, and study limitations.
    • Conclusion – Concise summary of key findings and implications.

Ethical Considerations


  • Studies involving human participants must include a statement of ethical approval and informed consent.
  • Animal studies must state compliance with institutional and national ethical guidelines.
  • Conflicts of interest and funding sources must be declared.

Conflict of Interest


All authors must disclose competing interests (financial or non-financial).
If no conflicts: “The author(s) declare no competing interests.”

  • Tables should be created in MS Word table function.

References


  • Follow Vancouver style (Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals).
  • Cite references in the text as superscript numerals.
  • List references in order of citation at the end of the manuscript.

Table & Figure


  • Each table and figure should be numbered consecutively (Table 1, Figure 1, etc.).
  • Include titles and legends.
  • Submit figures in high-resolution (300 dpi or higher) JPEG or TIFF format.

Review and Revision


  • Authors will receive peer-review feedback.
  • Revised submissions must include:
    • Referee comments + detailed point-by-point reply
    • Highlighted/colored changes in revised manuscript

Scientific Misconduct


The journal follows COPE, WAME, and ICMJE guidelines. Plagiarism, duplicate submissions or data fabrication will lead to rejection and possible reporting to institutions.


Submission Process


  • Manuscripts should be submitted via the online submission portal (link to be provided).
  • Each submission will undergo initial editorial screening followed by double-blind peer review.
  • Authors will be notified of the decision within 6–8 weeks of submission.

Article Processing Charges


Details of publication or processing fees (if applicable) will be mentioned at the time of acceptance.


Complaints and Appeals


Authors may submit detailed appeals by email to editorgosiindia@gmail.com. Appeals will be fairly reviewed by the Editorial Office.
